Business Opportunities for Mums in Australia

A time-saving business idea coupled with a streamlined booking system has seen Laundry Lady recognised for digital excellence at the AusMumpreneur Awards.

The mobile laundry service took home Silver in the Digital Innovation category for Queensland, and was also nominated in the competitive Service category.

COVID-19 wasn’t going to get in the way of the talented businesswomen who participated in the online presentation ceremony via Zoom at the end of last year.

Held annually, the Awards shine a spotlight on mums in business, acknowledging success in business, product development & innovation, and customer service.

It is Laundry Lady’s user-friendly booking system and accessible website that clinched its win – something which owner and CEO Susan is particularly proud of.

“What started out as a one-woman operation on the Gold Coast in 2012 has certainly come a long way,” says Susan.

“We really wanted to fill that gap in the small to mid-range commercial laundry market, and now have a team of contractors across Queensland, Victoria and, coming soon, New South Wales,” she says.

Busy households, beauty salons, hairdressers, NDIS participants, and Airbnb property managers wanting to book a wash and fold service can simply head to the Laundry Lady homepage, enter their suburb, and see available pickup dates and times.

Empowering women (and men!) through home-based opportunities

Much more than a wash, dry, fold and ironing service, Susan explains that helping everyday people create their own home-based business is at the heart of Laundry Lady.

“Many of our contractors are mums, carers, and busy individuals who join us so they can fit their work around their life,” she says, adding that Laundry Lady also welcomes Laundry Lads and husband & wife teams.

“We love supporting mums and others who seek a work life balance.”

Recently celebrating an impressive eight years in business, Susan says Laundry Lady is on track for even further expansion in 2021, no matter what challenges might come her way.

“There have been lots of highs and lows; times where I’ve thought about throwing it in, and then revitalising our business to not only survive COVID but thrive through it.

“We’ve got lots more exciting plans for growth coming in the next year, and hope to be bringing our laundry service to more locations throughout Australia very soon!

“I’d like to offer a big congratulations to all those nominated as part of the AusMumpreneur Awards, and look forward to seeing what we can achieve over the next 12 months.”
