Laundry Lady a finalist in Sunshine Coast Business Awards

Laundry Lady is up for the Trades & Services and Export categories as part of this year’s Sunshine Coast Business Awards, cementing its position as a rising star of the local business community.

As announced by the SCBA, the first round of judging has now been completed with 131 finalists across 16 industry categories.

Sunshine Coast Business Awards Chair Jennifer Swaine says this year’s entries were of a very high calibre, with all entrants doing a lot of work putting their entries together.

“I would like to congratulate this year’s finalists and also thank everyone who entered,” Mrs Swaine says.

“Past entrants and finalists have told us they found the entry process worthwhile so we hope everyone will use what they learnt about their businesses during the application process to advance them.”

Going for growth

Laundry Lady, which offers a national mobile laundry service from its headquarters in Maroochydore, has experienced significant growth over the past 12 months, hitting a $1 million revenue milestone and a team of 50-plus contractors.

“As an essential service, we have really thrived as a result of new client acquisition and demographic spread of customers,” Laundry Lady CEO Susan says.

These include families, gyms, sporting teams, property managers, Airbnb and Stayz, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, corporate functions and events, medical clinics and more.

As Susan says, it’s not just mums and women joining the Laundry Lady team, but dads, partners, students, and hospitality workers who may have found themselves out of work.

“Our contractors – Ladies and Lads! – don’t join us because they love doing laundry; they join us because they want flexibility around their lives.

“By joining us, they get to earn a really good income while working from home and working their own hours.”

Laundry Lady isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, actively recruiting across the Sunshine Coast, Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and brand new areas like Perth and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Earlier this month, Laundry Lady took home two silver trophies as part of the Ausmumpreneur Awards for its achievements in the Service Business and Business Pivot categories.

Finalist judging and masterclass

Mrs Swaine says now the finalists would enter the next stage of the judging process with interviews taking place over the coming weeks.

“In addition to the interviews, Finalists will also have the opportunity to participate in the Master Class to assist them to make the most of being a finalist.

She says the Sunshine Coast Business Awards were only possible thanks to many volunteers involved in the awards and the support of sponsors who financially supported them.

“In a first for the Awards, this year we have a naming sponsor on board – LPE.

“The Awards are reliant on sponsorships to ensure we can deliver the program throughout the year, leading to our Gala Awards Celebration in November, and we are delighted to have so much support from our sponsors this year, including the addition of naming sponsor, LPE.

“We now look forward to working with our Finalists as we complete the judging process and are excited as we head towards our celebration gala event that will be held in November.”

The Business of the Year winner is chosen from the winners of the categories. Hall of Fame Awards are awarded to those who have won their category three years in a row.
