Mobile laundry service celebrates dual win at AusMumpreneur Awards

Innovation and resilience have been key drivers of growth for mobile laundry service The Laundry Lady over the past year; something which hasn’t gone unnoticed on the national awards scene.

Based on the Sunshine Coast and now operating across three states, Laundry Lady has taken home silver trophies in the Service Business Award and Business Pivot Award categories as part of the 2021 AusMumpreneur Awards.

There was plenty of glass-chinking and sparkly backdrops as business women across the country Zoomed in on Thursday night (9 September) for the Queensland and Northern Territory presentation evening.

“The last 12 months have been challenging for many small businesses,” says Laundry Lady CEO, Susan Toft.

As Susan explains, it has also presented an opportunity for business owners to really focus on how their services are delivered. This is certainly the case with many of the entrepreneurs showcased as part of the AusMumpreneur Awards.

The secret to success? Diversifying your customer base, ensuring consistency in quality, investing in a strong digital presence, and automating processes where you can.

“We’ve not only launched into brand new locations like Melbourne and Sydney, but grown our national team of contractors to more than 50,” Susan says of Laundry Lady’s expansion.

“Last year we were honoured to place second in the AusMumpreneur Digital Innovation category, but we’ve really upped the ante this year by showing just how far we’ve come in terms of service offering and being able to pivot and innovate during times of change.”

Proudly presented by AusMumpreneur and The Women’s Business School, the AusMumpreneur Awards shine a light on the best and brightest Australian mums in business.

The Service Business Award (Silver) recognises service based businesses that have achieved outstanding results in all aspects of business, including creativity, innovation and resilience.

The Business Pivot Award (silver) recognises businesses that have achieved outstanding results through pivoting their business due to COVID-19.

Laundry Lady was founded on the Gold Coast in 2012, and now has a team of independent contractors servicing residential and commercial customers.

It offers door-to-door pickup and delivery in Queensland, Victoria and NSW, with a 24-hour turnaround for clothes, linen, towels, uniforms and other fabrics.

Building a million-dollar business, and how you can get on board!

The AusMumpreneur accolades come as Laundry Lady celebrates yet another exciting milestone: $1 million in revenue.

“As an essential service, we have really thrived as a result of new client acquisition and demographic spread of customers,” Susan says.

These include families, gyms, sporting teams, property managers, Airbnb and Stayz, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, corporate functions and events, medical clinics and more.

As Susan says, it’s not just mums and women joining the Laundry Lady team, but dads, partners, students, and hospitality workers who may have found themselves out of work.

“Our contractors – Ladies and Lads! – don’t join us because they love doing laundry; they join us because they want flexibility around their lives.

“By joining us, they get to earn a really good income while working from home and working their own hours.”

Laundry Lady isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, actively recruiting across the Sunshine Coast, Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and brand new areas like Perth and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

“We’re getting more and more enquiries from families and businesses who simply don’t have the time or facilities to do their weekly washing load. That’s where The Laundry Lady comes in!

“The demand is there. We now need more Laundry Ladies and Lads hitting the road and making the most of our established booking system and marketing platforms.”
