Like many busy mums (and dads) juggling the 9-5 office job and school runs, Bianca sought a better work-life balance where she could reclaim her weekends.
“I saw an advertisement on Facebook that Laundry Lady was looking for people in Mackay, and I decided: ‘why not look into it?’” she says of coming across the Laundry Lady opportunity.
After doing a bit of research, Bianca decided to complete the online application form, tee up an interview, and chase her entrepreneurial dreams.
“I had recently changed positions at work and had been struggling with the pressures of work/life balance,” she says.

Day-in-the-life snapshot: schedule of a Mackay Laundry Lady
“I start my day after school drop-offs,” says Bianca, who lives and works in Mackay, Queensland.
“I have arranged the clients so I don’t backtrack; normally picking up ironing jobs before I pick up my daily washing client, who I pickup from and drop off at the same time.”
Here, Bianca shares what a ‘normal’ Laundry Lady week looks like for her:
Monday: This is my busiest day, anywhere between 7-11 loads
Tuesday: Usually an ironing job and 4-6 loads of washing
Wednesday: Usually an ironing job and 4-6 loads of washing
Thursday: Sometimes an ironing job and 4 loads washing
Friday: Three loads of washing and an ironing job, normally returning them to customers after school pickup due to having weekends off.
Saturday & Sunday: FREE family time – to enjoy the beautiful weather and sights of Mackay.
Laundry Ladies and Lads are in charge of their own schedules, so they can take leave when they like, and never miss a kids’ sports day (or perfect beach day) again.
Saving customers time – one laundry basket at a time
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) clients, busy families, and small-scale washing and ironing jobs make up the bulk of Bianca’s workload.
“I enjoy the flexibility it has so I can enjoy time with my family after work and on the weekends.”
Thinking of joining Bianca in the work from home trend and earning some supplementary income from a side-hustle?
Bianca says that once you build your customer base, it becomes “very rewarding”.
“Start with a bigger washing machine if you have the funds, and it pays itself off in the end,” she adds.
