Laundry Lady: What first attracted you to Laundry Lady?
Liz: I first noticed The Laundry Lady on my Facebook feed and was interested to find out more, as I was looking for a better work-life balance for myself as my current job at the time had management changes and restructuring.
The Laundry Lady is a great concept with an easy business plan you can understand that enables you to work for yourself and earn money and have time to do the things that are important to you and your family.
LL: A bit about your family life and background
Liz: I have 2 daughters and a wonderful husband, and we are a very close family that love to spend time together, go on holidays, and celebrate with family and friends.
I am one of 7 children, being the youngest growing up. My mother is 94 and still thriving and unfortunately my father left us when he was 79.
I have an admin background with over 30 years’ experience working in many different fields including legal, medical and rehabilitation. This has given me extensive experience in customer service, time management skills, organisation, and relationship building which is helping me with current customers and building my business with The Laundry Lady
LL: How the role fits around your lifestyle and how do you manage to do the laundry and the ironing during the week?
Liz: Working as a contractor for The Laundry Lady is the one of the best decisions I have made for myself and my family. It is great to be in control of my own workload, customers and bookings.
I usually have my bookings organised so that the areas for pickups and deliveries flow from one to another in the suburbs, and I always try to be time-efficient so I have time to complete washing, drying and ironing.
I stagger pickups so that recurring customers bookings that I know what I get every week can be completed on time.
As I have 2 x 10kg washing machines and 2 dryers it’s easy to do more than one customer at a time. It’s good to work out time frames for drying as well and try and prioritise clothing that requires ironing as well so I have plenty of time to do this as well.
LL: Some laundry and ironing advice for Laundry Ladies and Lads that have recently started with us.
- Always acknowledge a new booking with a customer with an SMS introducing yourself and thanking them for using The Laundry Lady to assist them, confirm the booking and give them an opportunity to ask any questions prior to picking up and confirming details. This is a great opportunity to communicate with the customer and start the process of a working relationship.
- I always check all the laundry when I bring it home to see if anything requires ‘dry-cleaning only’ (as per the label), which you need to let the customer know and gain instructions.
- Check for any stains and pre-treat.
- Confirm what needs to be ironed and if there are any specific things they would like.
- I think these things are most important to confirm prior to starting any laundry jobs so that the customer is reassured and you, as a contractor, know exactly what is needed. This is also a great opportunity to build a customer relationship to then secure a recurring booking, and you are able to organise future workloads.
