Easter road trip: Top 5 travel tips for the school holidays (and why laundry doesn’t have to be an added stress)

Planning a road trip these Easter school holidays? Whether you’re heading to the coast, the countryside or a family farm stay, travelling with kids can be equal parts exciting and exhausting.

From packing the car to keeping everyone happy and fed, it’s a mission in itself!

To help you stress less and enjoy the ride, we’ve rounded up our Top 5 Holiday Hacks for travelling with children – including how to deal with the laundry pile when you return home.

1. Pack Mix & Match Outfits

Choose clothing items that can be mixed and matched for multiple outfit combos. Not only does this save space in the suitcase, but it makes morning routines a breeze.

And don’t forget to pack some ‘just in case’ spares which you can access while driving. There’s nothing worse than having to dig through suitcases from the boot when you need a quick t-shirt or shorts change.

Laundry Lady tip: When you return home, don’t let the mountain of washing ruin your post-holiday glow – book a wash, dry, fold or iron service and we’ll take care of it for you!

2. Create a DIY Entertainment Kit

Long drives can lead to fidgety kids, and there’s only so many times you can play Eye Spy without going cross eyed! Keep boredom at bay by packing an entertainment kit. Include colouring books, reusable sticker books, audiobooks, small toys, and a tablet/iPad loaded with movies or games (don’t forget headphones and chargers!).

3. Snack Smart

Skip the servo sugar-rush by pre-packing healthy snacks in individual containers. Think crackers, fruit slices, popcorn, and protein balls. Keep a small cooler bag handy for perishable items. Bonus tip – pack a roll of paper towel and hand wipes for messes on the go! No one wants melted easter eggs on hands and faces.

4. Plan Rest Stops and Stretch Breaks

Map out your trip with fun stops in mind – parks, scenic lookouts or quirky roadside attractions (The Big Banana, The Big Prawn – so many BIG things!). Not only will this give the kids a chance to stretch their legs, but it breaks up the drive and makes for some great holiday snaps.

5. Keep the Car Organised

Use backseat organisers or caddies to keep everything within reach – water bottles, tissues, wipes, chargers, toys. A laundry basket in the boot is a great spot for sandy shoes or dirty clothes (you know there’ll be plenty).
