We are really excited to announce that the Laundry Lady has been nominated for the Ausmumpreneur Awards!
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
The Laundry Lady is a mobile laundry service offering washing and ironing pickup and delivery with easy online booking, servicing a number of locations throughout Queensland and Victoria including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Cairns, Melbourne and Bendigo.
The business was started by our CEO Susan Toft in 2012 for busy professionals, working families and small businesses, to help them get their time back to themselves! Susan says “the idea came from the site of my own spare bedroom when I was working: covered in clothes, waiting to be folded and put away, I would rummage through on a busy stressful morning trying to work out what to wear. I NEEDED this service!”
The Laundry Lady now services a broad mix of residential and business customers including busy families, retirees, disabled or injured persons, beauty and massage salons, medical clinics, Airbnbs, hotels, hospitals and more. Everyone has laundry!
There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Susan explains, “like many new mums, the return to work after maternity leave sparked a major work/life balance crisis where I questioned how I was going to do it all, continue to work in a busy corporate career AND find the time to be the mum I wanted to be.
“I created the Laundry Lady because I wanted to help others also struggling with work/life balance, by providing laundry services to busy people, and by creating a flexible work from home business that could be replicated all over Australia.
“We now have a team of 14 (and rapidly growing!) independent contractors who provide the laundry services to our customers. They can work from home and have flexibility over when they want to work. Many are mums who want a flexible work from home business that they can work around the kids and family schedules.”
It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Susan gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own business: ”Get connected to other businesses by joining networking groups. They will connect you to knowledge, build your network, keep you motivated and supported.
“Know the reason why you are starting the business. When things are tough you’ll need to focus on this to keep you going. And know that starting a business will be hard on your relationships. Set yourself boundaries. The people in our lives are more important than all of it. And make life easier for yourself and outsource your laundry!”
