Mobile laundry service a game-changer for Central Coast locals

Busy households and time-poor business across the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie are now able to book their on-the-go wash and fold needs with The Laundry Lady.

Laundry Lady, which first launched on the Gold Coast in 2012, has experienced steady growth over the past six months, employing even more contractors across Sydney and New South Wales, plus Queensland and Victoria..

CEO Susan Toft says the uptick in demand from families, working couples, property managers, and small businesses like hair and beauty salons has been a key driver of growth.

“Our customers enjoy the convenience of having their washing taken care of – whether it’s families or commercial clients – and take advantage of pre-booking regular services,” she says.

Renowned for its beautiful beaches and pristine national parks, New South Wales’ Central Coast is a popular destination for holidaymakers.

Airbnb, bed and breakfast, beachside Stayz, and property managers in the area are invited to save time and book their next laundry service with Laundry Lady.

It’s also the perfect solution for those staying at hotels or caravan parks, or without access to laundry facilities.

“It really takes the hassle out of a normally time-consuming chore,” Susan says of the contactless service.

“Those in the tourism and hospitality sector can get back to business and day-to-day operations, while Laundry Lady takes care of the linen, towels and uniforms,” she says.

Laundry Lady services (wash, dry, fold and iron) are also ideal for those who may be renovating, working at Newcastle Airport or Williamstown RAAF base, FIFO workers, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, or local cafe or gym owners.

The award-winning business uses an innovative, independent contractor model and easy-to-use online booking platform, which has seen it shine in programs like the AusMumpreneur Awards.

Ready to book?

Customers on the Central Coast can book online, have their clothes, linen, towels and other fabrics picked up from their door and returned freshly laundered the very next day. It’s contactless, offers easy payments, and is backed by a national brand with fully-trained laundry contractors.

For mobile laundry service Central Coast and Lake Macquarie, book with Laundry Lady – events, business, property management, Stayz & Airbnb, home laundry, renovations, baby shower gifts and more.

Laundry Lads get the job done

Laundry Business Opportunities for Stay-at-Home Dads in Australia

We may be The Laundry Lady by name, but our team includes a number of amazing Laundry Lads plus husband and wife teams!

In the last month alone, Laundry Lady has recruited three Laundry Lads, ready to help with your wash and fold needs in all new areas of Victoria, along with a husband and wife team on the Sunshine Coast.

“Laundry Lady is seeing an increasing number of men register their interest in joining our team,” explains CEO, Susan.

Tradies, students, IT workers, insurance workers, stay at home dads, corporate workers and more – it’s a job for everyone.

“Flexible work days and hours, and the ability to work from home, is something that’s appealing to busy parents – both mums and dads – especially with the recent impacts and job losses of COVID.”

Self-starters from across Australia are turning to trusted names like The Laundry Lady to try their hand at small business ownership, and getting started couldn’t be easier.

Gold Coast husband and wife team proving there is such a thing as work-life balance

It’s not just the lifestyle that is proving a drawcard, it’s the long-term stability and huge earning potential which has seen some husbands join their wives as Laundry Lady and Lad teams.

Superstar Laundry Lady couple Tanya and Pat from Queensland’s Gold Coast certainly saw the benefits of doing laundry full-time.

“It started out at three days per week, and just grew from there,” says Tanya.

Tanya runs a tight ship when it comes to her home laundry – five washing machines, five dryers, two irons, and a custom-built ironing bench later.

“And that doesn’t even include my own personal washer and dryer!”

She says her husband, Patrick, is a bit of an innovator with their high-volume setup.

“One day, he noticed I was struggling a bit with one of the baskets, so he made a trolley where the peg buckets can go on the side. We have a really great system here now.”

Wanting a less physical role, but still needing a reliable income, Patrick left his job as a plumber and officially joined Tanya (as a ‘Laundry Lad’ and business partner) in late 2020.

“He usually heads off one way and I go the other,” Tanya says of their morning routine. “But we really enjoy working together.”

Stay at home dad jobs & rise of the ‘Gig Economy’

According to website CXC Global, the dramatic rise of a flexible workforce and the ‘Gig Economy’ was one of the key things to emerge from 2020, and it’s something that is set to continue in 2021.

The popularity of such services combined with cuts to part-time work has seen more people turn to freelance work, opting for the independent contractor rather than the traditional employee route.

The shift to gig-style consulting jobs is evident in almost every known industry. Outside of technology, other job categories include: Marketers, Drivers (think Uber and food delivery) and Tradespeople.

Laundry Lady nominated for national business awards

Laundry Business Opportunities for Australian Mums in QLD, Victoria & NSW

Susan Toft, CEO of The Laundry Lady has been nominated for the 2021 AusMumpreneur Awards as it continues to bring its mobile laundry services to even more locations nationally.

The AusMumpreneur Awards, presented by The AusMumpreneur Network, celebrate and recognise Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation.

The Awards are designed to shine a light on the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family, a struggle which prompted Susan to take the leap and launch her own venture.

“Like many new mums, the return to work after maternity leave sparked a major work-life balance crisis where I questioned how I was going to do it all – continue working in a busy corporate career and find the time to be the mum I wanted to be,” she says.

“I wanted to help other mums and dads struggling with the same work-life balance, by creating a flexible work from home business that could be replicated all over Australia.”

Flexibility & lifestyle with Laundry Lady

The Laundry Lady is a mobile laundry service offering convenient washing and ironing pickup and delivery via an easy online booking platform.

Started in 2012 and growing to more than 40 contractors in the past year, it now services a broad mix of residential and business customers in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales..

Customers include busy families, retirees, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, beauty and massage salons, medical clinics, Airbnbs, hotels, hospitals and more.

Start Your Own Laundry Business at Home!

Its team of independent contractors all work from their own homes, using their own cars and equipment. Many are mums who want a work from home business that they can do around their kids and family schedules.

Susan offers some practical advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise.

“Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who will connect you to knowledge, build your network and keep you motivated.

“Know the reason why you are starting the business. When things are tough, you’ll need to focus on this to keep you going.”

It Takes a Village changes the way we give back: how more people can now access Laundry Lady wash and fold services

Mobile Wash & Fold Laundry Services at “It Takes a Village”

When it comes to raising children, not to mention dealing with sickness, grief, job losses or other unexpected life events, we all know that the old proverb rings true: It Takes a Village.

This is where one mum took the concept and created an accessible platform for families, friends and carers to assist in giving back to loved ones in a practical and helpful way. It’s fundraising – with a difference.

After watching family and friends go through tough times and noting how much they relied on donations of cooked meals and babysitting IOU’s, Fran Portet wondered what a 21st Century village would look like.

“How could we make it easy to coordinate group support and help in a meaningful way?” she says of her initial spark of an idea. “And just like that, It Takes a Village was born.”

With over 15 years in marketing and media, a growing understanding of what constitutes ‘valuable support’ (it’s different for everyone) and a penchant for organising group gifts, Fran decided she could simplify the process of collective support-giving and gifting in one destination – Your Village.

With its list of online services (readily available to be purchased by the recipient) growing by the day, mobile laundry service The Laundry Lady jumped at the opportunity to join in.

Laundry Gift Vouchers – Give the gift of help with It Takes a Village

“We are a mobile laundry service that comes direct to the home or business,” explains Laundry Lady CEO, Susan Toft. “We pick up the laundry, offering a contactless service, and return freshly washed, dried and folded the next day.”

“Our team of contractors are experienced in assisting busy families, the elderly, and NDIS participants. Aligning our services with ‘It Takes a Village’ was a natural decision for the business.”

It Takes a Village offers an easy way to show support with gifts that are genuinely helpful (think cleaning or gardening services, babysitting or a nice hot meal).

It’s all done with the added benefit of an easy, shareable donation link.

How it works: laundry services to hot meals

What is a ‘Village’?

As outlined on the It Takes a Village website, a ‘village’ is a one-stop online shop for the recipient to redeem and use their voucher.

Why flexible spending?

The lucky person-in-need can choose to spend their gift voucher on absolutely anything from The Village. They can choose to spend a portion of their voucher on food, some on laundry services and some on babysitting. The flexibility and point of difference means that the recipient can tailor their purchases to suit their situation.

If you’d like to create a Village of helpful hands, or want to learn more about It Takes a Village, head to the official website.

Australia’s Gig economy and the rise of the side-hustle

Stay-at-Home Laundry Jobs in Sydney & Melbourne

Uber Eats, Menulog, Deliveroo – they’re names Aussie households have become all too familiar with, especially throughout COVID-19 when ordering in became the new going out.

The popularity of such services combined with cuts to part-time work has seen more people turn to freelance work, opting for the independent contractor rather than the traditional employee route.

According to website CXC Global, the dramatic rise of a flexible workforce was one of the key things to emerge from 2020, and it’s something that is set to continue in 2021.

The shift to gig-style consulting jobs is evident in almost every known industry. Outside of technology, where CXC says it has been happening for some time, other job categories include: Marketers, Drivers (think Uber and food delivery) and Tradespeople.

Benefits of an independent contractor model

So, what exactly are the benefits of independent contractor roles and ‘gig’ work?

  • Choose your own work days and hours
  • Fits around family commitments
  • Gives you a sense of achievement and ability to be your own boss
  • Minimal start-up costs
  • Become part of a bigger brand, where the marketing is done for you

Start your side hustle, or make it a full-time opportunity

In addition to the growing Gig Economy, which is where ‘gig’ workers enter into formal agreements with on-demand companies – the side-hustle is also booming in Australia.

“Often, the side-hustle is what’s known as a ‘passion project’ – the type of work individuals desire to perform, which is often different from the work at their typical ‘job’,” the article from CXC explains.

“With worker demand for the side-hustle on the rise and smart organisations seeing a huge opportunity for awesome productivity and output gains, the side-hustle will prove to be a major win-win in the organisation-worker relationship. It’s one of those gig economy trends in Australia that’s ramping up right now.”

Whether you’re looking to supplement your income, or create full-time opportunities, there are many options out there for flexible work-life options.
